Taunted by tuna

~January 17, 2011~

The big fish that was following our boat and keeping me out of the water was still there this morning, so Tamas and Sara suited up in diving gear and took turns exploring in the water while the other held the swimmer by a rope tether attached to the boat for safety. We were hoping it was something exciting, like a whale or a Russian submarine but alas, it turned out to be nothing more than a tame old yellowfin tuna.

Normally, tuna swim in schools but this one must have skipped class.

It was great to get back in the water, finally. I swam 7.5 miles in the afternoon. The winds are down and the waves are down, too. The water was too still for my tastes! Visibility isn’t great as it’s still pretty cloudy out. The sun only peaked through the clouds a couple of times. But the Pacific itself is so blue and so clear and so gorgeous.

We’re bracing ourselves for this storm that’s supposed to send big swells our way in a couple of days, but I’m looking forward to it! I love rocking and rolling, maybe a little more than most.

Not much else to report. They cleaned the top of the boat today so we’ll look good for any airplanes flying overhead. Oh, and tomorrow, we should be about halfway to Hawaii already.

More soon,

Jennifer
